It all happened during a historically expired session, with no fewer than six red flags and a qualification that took two hours. “It made it all very difficult, also in combination with the rain and the wind,” says Verstappen. “I just had to go for that last round. And I didn’t even ride the tires on which I wanted to ride, but because of all those red flags we couldn’t really do differently.”

After his victory in Monza, it also goes well two weeks later for Verstappen and Red Bull. A sign that the team seems to have found the way up. Verstappen: “I am very happy how the weekend so far. We were in the qualification and that’s what it’s all about. On Sunday, Thet will be a Lagne Race, we have to ride our own competition and handle our tires well.”

Carlos Sainz (Williams) surprisingly rode the second time, before Liam Lawson (Racing Bulls). “I am glad that I was able to keep most drivers among me in the final phase. Except one then, Max, but I am not surprised …”, says Sainz.
