Max Eberl talks about Kimmich’s future

The national player has recently been linked to a farewell. Is Kimmich actually going? New sports director Max Eberl has now commented.

Does he now play in central midfield or as a right-back? National coach Julian Nagelsmann has already made a decision following the return of Toni Kroos: Joshua Kimmich will play as a right-back in the German national team in the future.

This trend is also becoming more and more apparent at FC Bayern: After the 29-year-old was deployed in the defensive position in the 2-1 win against RB Leipzig on the last Bundesliga matchday, coach Thomas Tuchel also decided to play this Friday’s game at SC Freitag for Kimmich as right-back – as a replacement for the regular defender Sacha Boey, who will be out injured for a longer period of time. But one thing is also clear: Kimmich’s favorite position is in central midfield – anyway, there has recently been speculation about the national player’s possible departure from Munich.

The new Bayern sports director Max Eberl has now spoken about the situation with the long-time Bayern professional – and made it clear: Personal preferences should not play a role in the current situation: “I think it’s about us winning games,” said Eberl before the start of the 24th Bundesliga matchday at SC Freiburg on DAZN. “Every player has to put themselves aside.”

“In the end it’s about Bayern Munich”

The 50-year-old continued: “Jo is a great player, he would like to play in all positions, he would like to play at the back and score goals at the front.” But: “At the moment we just need him in the right-back position, where he grew up and where he played outstandingly.” Kimmich “can play both positions. But in the end it’s about Bayern Munich.”

Will Kimmich stay with Bayern beyond this season? Eberl remained vague: “His contract ends in 2025, I had my first day at work today, Christoph (friend, Bayern sports director, editor’s note) has already had a few conversations with him, I will also sit down with him, talk with him.” Another personality plays a role: “Of course the question will come: Who is actually the coach in the new season? That is the issue that we will ideally solve first in order to then make the other decisions. “

Eberl confirms Dier’s whereabouts

Eberl also confirmed: England international Eric Dier will play in Munich beyond the summer. The defender’s previous appearances for the record champions activated a clause in his contract that now binds Dier to Bayern until 2025.

The Munich team loaned the 30-year-old from Tottenham Hotspur in January until the end of the season. The 49-time international player’s contract with Spurs expires in the summer.
