Surprising visit to the stadium
Bayern boss reveals details about Müller’s return

Thomas Müller makes a surprise return to FC Bayern and watches the final home game alongside the bosses in the stands. Is there more to it?
At the last home game of the year against Mainz 05 (2:2), the FC Bayern bosses welcomed a very special guest to the VIP stand. Club icon Thomas Müller suddenly took a seat there on Sunday evening. And not in any seat in the VIP grandstand. No, Müller sat right next to ex-boss Karl-Heinz Rummenigge and sports director Max Eberl.
Exactly where Honorary President Uli Hoeneß normally sits. The current CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen also sat in the row right next to Eberl. Many observers inevitably asked the question: Is this what the future of FC Bayern looks like?
At least before the game the mood among the bosses was good – also thanks to Müller. You could see everyone involved joking and laughing loudly with each other. “We laughed a lot beforehand,” Eberl reported after the game in the catacombs of the arena about the long-time crowd favorite’s visit to the VIP stand.
At the same time, it still represented a challenge for Eberl. “Thomas is someone who talks a lot. I’m someone who tends to be a little quieter in the game,” explained Eberl with a wink. “That’s why I had to adapt a little to the situation. But it was very funny and very pleasant.”
Because the season in North America with the Vancouver Whitecaps has ended, Müller was able to watch from an unusual position in the Allianz Arena. With the Whitecaps, Müller had to admit defeat to Lionel Messi and Inter Miami 3-1 in the playoff final for the championship title on December 6th. According to t-online information, Müller returned to Munich from Vancouver on Thursday.
And he didn’t miss a visit to the stadium at the club he loved, for which he had played for a total of 25 years before he left in the summer. Müller is under contract with the Whitecaps for another season until the end of the year.
Maybe the picture with Müller in the middle of the Bayern bosses in the VIP stand was more than just a nice snapshot. And possibly a small glimpse into the future of the record champions. In any case, Müller cut a good figure in his first appearance in a row with the FC Bayern executives.
