Manuel Neuer’s future at FC Bayern remains uncertain. Will he stay or end his career?

Manuel Neuer has been 40 years old for a week. For months, his birthday had been considered a rough time to make a decision about the world champion’s future. Will Neuer continue again – or will he stop in the summer? While a decision is currently still awaited, FC Bayern has to deal with both scenarios.

Not that easy for Max Eberl. “Patience is not a strength of mine, I am a very impatient person. And yet it is still advisable to wait for a moment sometimes instead of rushing into something,” said FC Bayern’s sports director in an interview with the “Abendzeitung München” and the “tz”.

A decision is not expected in the coming days. “He has now turned 40, we celebrated him. We have spoken again in the last 14 days: Manu will now prepare for the important games in April and then we will sit down and talk,” said Eberl.

At the same time, the 52-year-old made the club’s position clear: “If Manu is up for it, feels appropriate, is ready, and our ideas match, I can well imagine an extension.”

Despite the lack of time, Bayern are not under great pressure. With Jonas Urbig, a potential successor is already ready, who has been recommended several times this season. In addition, national goalkeeper Alexander Nübel from Stuttgart is returning in the summer, who would be another option in the Bayern goal if Neuer were to end his career.

For Harry Kane, the end of his career is far from an issue. His contract in Munich only runs until 2027. “We will talk to him in the summer,” Eberl made clear. The sports director is optimistic that Kane will stay: “To put it somewhat loosely, he feels very comfortable. He wins titles with the team, also wins personal awards and breaks records en masse. His appreciation has become completely different since he moved to FC Bayern, even in his home country of England.”
