After his departure from BNNVARA, Matthijs van Nieuwkerk does not have to count on being able to go to RTL 4. “It’s very simple: we are complete,” says channel boss Peter van der Vorst.
The gods are favorable to Peter van der Vorst. A few years ago he was in far-reaching negotiations with Matthijs van Nieuwkerk to make the switch to RTL 4, but that failed anyway. In retrospect, a blessing, because otherwise the channel would have had the Matthijs scandal on its plate after the Voice scandal.
Not interested
Now that Matthijs has left the public broadcaster, nothing stands in the way of RTL taking him on. However, opinion diva Angela de Jong recently said that Peter is no longer interested in him: “They no longer want to work with this type of people in one team.”
Peter now responds to this in an interview with Veronica Superguide. “I read that, that I wouldn’t want him anymore. But no. It hasn’t been the case for some time now. As for the behavior he is accused of, there is obviously no place for that at RTL.”
‘We are complete’
According to Peter, Angela’s reading is therefore incorrect, but the bottom line remains the same conclusion: Matthijs no longer has to knock on RTL’s door. “We had serious talks, but nothing came of it. That was a long time ago and our team with Renze, Humberto, Eva and Beau is doing an excellent job in the late evening.”
Matthijs therefore no longer has to make an attempt to reopen the negotiations. “It is very simple, we are complete.”
Champions League
What does Peter think of TV celebrities and Jan Slagter who condone Matthijs’s misconduct by saying that he played ‘Champions League’ at De Wereld Draait Door?
Peter: “Well, I think you do that on the football field. We just have a very nice job, where the pressure is sometimes high. But then you can still treat each other with respect.”
