Matthäus calculates tough with the Dortmund defense

After the 2: 2 (0: 1) in the district derby between FC Schalke 04 and BVB, the home side feel like the moral winner. The Knappen made up two deficits against their arch-rival from Dortmund, although Borussia were clearly superior in terms of play. Bayern legend Lothar Matthäus was surprised by the speed of the guests.

BVB should have imagined Saturday evening very differently. Ironically, the impressive winning streak of coach Edin Terzic’s team ended in the Ruhrpott cracker at Schalke. And that despite the fact that the black and yellow had recorded a significant increase in chances over 90 minutes.

“Dortmund should have won the game. They missed too many big chances and Fährmann made good saves on several occasions. […] They could have decided the game earlier. Such a game throws you back in the championship fight,” analyzed record national player Lothar Matthäus in his role as TV expert on “Sky”.

FC Schalke, on the other hand, could “feel like the secret winner after two deficits,” added the 61-year-old.

FC Schalke 04 vs. BVB: Matthäus criticizes Kobel replacement Meyer

Matthäus had little understanding for BVB’s defensive behavior when Schalke scored the second goal through Joker Kenan Karaman.

“Point one, bad attacking by Dortmund on the right. Point two, poor coordination in the center. Karaman was actually in the worst position and then he can get the ball unhindered,” he mercilessly listed the shortcomings of the guests.

Borussia goalkeeper Alexander Meyer also got rid of his fat. One cannot “acquit” the representative of the injured regular keeper Gregor Kobel, Matthäus clarified: “Maybe he didn’t expect it either, but he doesn’t look happy about it.”
