The share of diplomas in the above-mentioned disciplines is higher for men than for women. In 2020, the proportion was 35 percent among men and 8 percent among women.
Flanders scores low in Europe for diplomas in mathematics, science and technology. The top countries are Germany (36 percent), Austria (31 percent) and Romania, Slovenia and Croatia (30 percent each). On average, in Europe this concerns a quarter of the higher education diplomas awarded.
At 18 percent, Belgium is still below the share of the Flemish community.
