Werder Bremen’s training start in 2025 will take place without Marvin Ducksch. The striker has to take a break for the time being after an operation.

A familiar face was missing from Werder Bremen’s opening training session on Thursday: striker Marvin Ducksch was not on the pitch with his teammates. The reason: The attacker underwent a minor operation on his thyroid, as the club announced.

It is said that Ducksch will slow down and train individually “in the coming days”. It seems unrealistic that the appearance in the first Bundesliga game after the winter break against RB Leipzig on January 12th is in jeopardy. The 30-year-old has been one of the top performers in the 15 games of the season so far. In 18 competitive games he scored five goals and prepared nine more goals.

In addition to Ducksch, five other players were missing from the Hanseatic League’s first team unit in 2025. Offensive man Justin Njinmah is also working individually due to persistent ankle problems. Midfielder Leonardo Bittencourt and goalkeeper Michael Zetterer had to sit out Thursday due to an infection. Defensive player Felix Agu and attacker Keke Topp are still sidelined due to their injuries.
