The new contract that Martijn Krabbé signed with RTL 4 this month has a term of one year. His bosses Peter van der Vorst and Sven Sauvé did not dare to do it for longer. “Risky.”

Martijn Krabbé signed a new contract with RTL at the beginning of this month. That was surprising here and there, because many people did not expect that the presenter would still be alive. When the presenter announced in mid-January that he was terminally ill, it sounded as if he had entered his final months.

One-year contract

Fortunately, Martijn is still with us and will therefore remain connected to the family channel for the time being. “It is of course a miracle that I got a new contract at all,” he says RTL Tonightwhich yesterday was entirely dedicated to Humberto Tan’s one-on-one interview with his TV colleague.

For how long? “Although only for a year – I don’t think they dared to take any risks for longer, and rightly so – but it is of course very strange that someone who has had a brain haemorrhage due to one of the metastases, an edema or something like that, is simply given a contract as a voice-over.”

Risky

It is therefore quite risky, Martijn emphasizes. “Because there is a chance that at some point I will no longer be able to talk. And then I will simply get a contract as a voice-over.”

Despite this bright spot, things are still going downhill for the presenter. “I also cannot remember a lot of things and I am often confused. That is why my dear wife is also there tonight, especially in case I say something strange or if I forget something or if I confuse certain things.”
