Marterer failed in round one in Sofia

Tennis professional Maximilian Marterer was eliminated in the first round of the ATP tournament in Sofia. The 28-year-old from Nuremberg failed at the start of the hard court event 3:6, 2:6 to Jack Draper. The top-seeded Italian Lorenzo Musetti is waiting for the Brit in the round of 16.

Marterer reached the semi-finals in Antwerp a good two weeks ago and therefore returned to the top 100 on Monday. Against Draper, the German gave up the third service game in both sets and clearly missed his next success after just an hour and eight minutes.

Jan-Lennard Struff will take part in the tournament on Wednesday against Briton Billy Harris. The Warsteiner is ranked number three in the Bulgarian capital. Olympic champion Alexander Zverev withdrew from participation after qualifying early for the ATP finals.
