Not for the first time this season, Jong AZ lost a match in the first division with the minimal difference. They lost 0-1 against ADO Den Haag and so the team of trainer Maarten Martens was again empty-handed. “We shouldn’t have lost this match.”

The defeat against ADO Den Haag meant the nineteenth loss for the Alkmaar talents this season. Yet there is a strong feeling at Martens that more could have been achieved from many matches. “We have to be ruthless in the penalty area. We have failed to do that too often this season. And ADO is ruthless and then they win,” said Martens.

Brilliant growth

At Jong AZ, defender Wouter Goes was allocated a base place for the third time this season. The talent from the AZ youth academy is only seventeen years old, but was one of the stars on the field. Goes fought several duels with ADO top scorer Thomas Verheydt and that went very well for him.
