In recent weeks, Mart Hoogkamer has been in the news all the time because of canceled performances. He now struggles with inflamed nasal passages and therefore paid a visit to the ENT doctor on Thursday. After that visit, Mart recorded a video message from his car, which he then put in his stories posted on Instagram.

furious Mart

Mart is in the movie totally angry. At one point, he even nearly knocks the airbag out of his car. “They all think you’re in it for the money and that makes me so mad because that’s the last thing on my mind. I only think about quality! I always think about quality!”

How can it be that Mart is all about money when he cancels all performances? Showbiz journalist Rob Goossens reveals in RTL Boulevard where exactly Mart’s anger comes from.

Higher rates

Rob didn’t understand Mart’s anger at first either. “At first we thought: maybe he is a little overworked. Of course he also performed a lot, but we just asked his manager.”

He continues: “There is indeed something different and that is the fact that there are apparently rumors that Mart is not performing because he now has performances that are already booked before his breakthrough, at what his fee was then. That is now a bit higher and people say: ‘He just doesn’t perform because he wants to go to that higher rate.’”

utter nonsense

That’s not true, says Rob. “If you just want to perform well, then it is of course horrifying to hear around you that people think you are a money wolf. His manager also says that it is complete nonsense, because then he would have to remain ‘sick’ until December 31.”

How much does Mart actually take for such a performance? “He was at 5,900 euros before his breakthrough and that is now approaching 9,000. Then he comes to sing for half an hour and also brings a sound engineer with him. It’s not all for Bassie, but a lot with Bassie.”

Tons per week

Mart misses a lot now that he has to cancel all his performances. “Then you go towards a ton a week. If you have not been able to perform for three weeks and you have just bought a beautiful house in Lisse for about a million…”

Colleague Luuk Ikink: “I understand his frustration, because this is the summer in which it has to happen, of course.”
