It sometimes seems as if the NPO never learns from its mistakes. Just when everyone seemed to agree that superficial and meaningless entertainment has no place on TV channels paid for with tax money, AvroTros serves up the snarling drinking soap Mart op de Piste and BNNVARA is preparing a new season of Ranking the Stars.

‘Really infantile’

The NPO must stop with ‘infantile SBS formats’, the panel of the AD Media podcast. Journalist Dennis Jansen: “I think it’s really infantile. It really doesn’t feel like anything at all. Shopping, throwing snowballs, running in the snow, hahaha-laugh-laugh, in the jacuzzi, very lame humor. It adds nothing. It’s not even entertainment.”

The program is formally about creating a new après-ski hit. “Then everything is possible at the NPO, because then it has the culture hook. Of course it doesn’t work that way”, says colleague Angela de Jong. “I think it’s really outrageous.”

Insult

And even then that element is hardly discussed, according to Dennis. “They don’t even do that. You don’t see them take a hit either. You can’t see them being creative, can you?”

Angela: “You see them singing a cover of Hazes with the two of them and you see a new beat being put under an existing hit by Jody Bernal, which is also really an insult to the term après-ski hit, because that’s not Jody Bernal’s yodel.”

Mindless entertainment

The NPO has completely lost its way again, says Angela. “It is a broad problem that the NPO thinks that you attract the dropped out viewer, who is often a bit younger and apparently wants mindless entertainment, with these formats.”

“I put this in the list Showcolade, Tik ‘M Aan, De Bluffer and Jandino’s Delivery Service. From: We think we’re attracting viewers with meaningless shit. That is a real miscalculation.”
