Marsmeteorite of 25 kilos sold for € 4.3 million: Niger demands answers about possible smuggling

A gigantic meteorite from Mars was sold last month for a record amount of more than € 4.3 million at Sotheby’s in New York. The meteorite, known as NWA 16788 and weighs more than 25 kilos, is the largest piece of Mars rock that has ever been found on earth. But in Niger, where the meteorite was discovered nine months ago, the government started an investigation into possible illegal trade and smuggling.
