Eight downgrades at Libertad

In the market value update of the Paraguayan Primera División, Mateo Klimowicz, who moved to Cerro Porteño, is one of the losers. The former Stuttgart offensive player is now valued at 1.8 million euros. The loss of 400,000 euros is the second largest devaluation after Matías Rojas. The new addition to Club Libertad will now be valued at 2.5 million euros – previously his market value was 3 million euros. For both, the change is due to the winter move, as the duo came from bigger and more financially powerful leagues: Rojas from the Portland Timbers of the MLS and Klimowicz from Atlético San Luis of the Liga MX. While Rojas appears to have his best years behind him at 30, Klimowicz has never achieved a final breakthrough in major leagues.
The big winners in Paraguay are two professionals who are receiving market value for the first time at the same time. Eduardo Delmas from league leader Olimpia and Imanol Segovia from Clausura runner-up Guarani. Delmas managed to make the jump from the U19 to the professional squad at the beginning of the year and since then the talent has played regularly in the league. Its new market value is 500,000 euros. If he gets playing time in the Copa Sudamericana, this should increase further. Segovia moved from Argentina’s third division to Asúncion in the winter and he immediately won a regular place in central defense. Its market value is now estimated at 400,000 euros.
In the update, in which 72 players are re-evaluated, the focus is on professionals who changed over the winter and those of the newcomers. However, Libertad recorded eight devaluations. The club’s squad value therefore falls by EUR 2.15 million to EUR 21.5 million. After a weak start to the season, the 23-time champions are only in tenth place in the league and also fell far short of their own expectations in the Clausura. Players like Néstor Giménez (from 1.5 million to 1.3 million euros) or Matías Espinoza (from 1.3 million to 1 million euros), who are usually among the best in the league, perform far below their level. Given these performances, a nomination for the World Cup seems a long way off.
The now 44-year-old Roque Santa Cruz has nothing to do with that anymore. The former Bayern Munich and Manchester City professional has been playing in his home country since 2016. But he doesn’t seem to get bored there. In the winter, the center forward moved from Libertad to Nacional and is currently in second place with his team. Its market value remains unchanged at 100,000 euros. That means tied for third place in the list of the most valuable over-42 players in the world.
This is how transfer market market values work
The transfer market market values are created taking into account various pricing models as well as a strong involvement of the transfer market community, which deals with the values in detailed discussions. The transfer market market values cannot generally be equated with the transfer fees actually paid.
The goal is not to predict a price, but rather an expected value. When determining the market value, both individual transfer modalities and situational conditions are relevant to a certain extent. Examples of this are listed here. Transfermarkt does not use an algorithm (for detailed market value definition).
