U20 talents are growing
According to the market value update from Transfermarkt.com.br, World Cup participant Pedro is the most valuable player active in South America. The 25-year-old professional from Flamengo Rio de Janeiro has increased his market value by 2 million to 22 million euros around a week before the start of the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A season, overtaking his striker Gabriel “Gabigol” Barbosa, who in turn has increased his market value by 1 million to 21 million euros loses.
The fact that Pedro is now at the top is partly due to Gabigol’s loss of value and his own profit, but also because Danilo, valued at 25 million euros, switched from SE Palmeiras to Nottingham Forest in the winter. According to Transfermarkt’s Brazil Area Manager Marcos Watts, Pedro’s rise and his rival’s fall illustrates where both players are in their respective careers. “Since signing Pedro had a private duel with Gabriel Barbosa at Flamengo,” said Watts. “As the team’s top scorer in 2022, Pedro was called up for the World Cup in Qatar and started to really get past Gabigol. With the departure of coach Dorival Júnior and the arrival of Vítor Pereira, Gabigol lost its luster and Pedro consolidated as the star of the team, hence the opposite market value development.”

Vitor Roque and Andrey Santos: Coveted U20 stars increase market values
After winning the South American U20 Championship undefeated and being called up to the national team, Vitor Roque’s market value increases significantly. One of the standout players in the last Copa Libertadores for CA Paranaense and top scorer in the youth tournament, the 18-year-old made his Seleção debut against Morocco in March. The striker, who has been linked with a move to FC Barcelona, is up a further €4m to €18m, putting him in the top-five of Brazil’s top flight.
Another player whose market value continues to skyrocket is Andrey Santos, who signed from Chelsea in January. The 18-year-old midfielder now stands at 15 million euros after an increase of 3 million euros. Andrey Santos, loaned back to Vasco da Gama shortly after joining the Premier League club, is held in high esteem after being voted the U20 tournament’s top player and sharing the top scorer’s crown with Vitor Roque (5 goals each) shared. Like many of his team-mates, Andrey Santos recently made his senior debut.
Endrick: Market value stagnation after a brilliant start at Palmeiras
Third in Brazil domestic rankings, Endrick is well known in European football after signing with Real Madrid, but his market value has neither increased nor decreased in this update.
Area manager Watts explains: “At the age of 16, the striker made his triumphant debut in professional football as the historically second most valuable player in his age group after Ansu Fati, with a market value of first €15 million and then €20 million. Not only because of the interest of almost all top clubs, including signing at Real from 2024, but also because of his good performances for Palmeiras right away – one of the best teams in South America. Before he can match the €35m base fee in terms of market value that Los Blancos will pay when he turns 18, he needs to take the next step in development on the pitch and show that the early praise is justified. Just last week, Endrick scored his first goal of the season in the Paulista State Championship final against Água Santa.”
Brazil: Prominent market value losers around Pedrinho
Alongside Gabriel Barbosa, some of the other well-known players from European football were among the biggest losers in market value, including striker Pedrinho, who lost €2m to €10m. Since joining Clube Atlético Mineiro on loan from Shakhtar Donetsk, the 24-year-old has failed to repeat the performances that recommended him for a move from the Corinthians to Europe
Also Flamengos Gerson (-2 to 16), who returned to Rio de Janeiro from Olympique Marseille in January for 15 million, his teammate and ex-international Éverton (-1 to 11) or Kayky, loaned by Man City to EC Bahia (-1 to 9) lose. Meanwhile, midfield talent André from Fluminense Rio de Janeiro, who had received an offer from FC Fulham in January – but his club turned it down, is up by 4 million to 14 million euros.
