Ferrari has asked the appeals seat of the International Automobile Federation FIA to take another look at the events of the last restart of the Australian GP.

It’s about that Fernando Alonso For the one who crashed into the side of an Aston Martin For Carlos Sainz a five-second time penalty was issued. Since the next time we started after the safety car and only drove a lap, there was not a sufficient time difference.

Due to a time penalty, Sainz dropped from fourth place to the last place in the race (12th) and was completely without World Championship points.

Sainz was about to hear of the punishment that awaited him. The Spaniard already knew before the last lap that he would drop to the tail of the race.

– They have to listen to me first, Sainz pleaded on the team radio.

Ferrari filed its complaint on Thursday, and the team manager Fred Vasseur hoped this time to get in touch with the decision-makers.

– The biggest problem for Carlos was that he couldn’t make his voice heard. This is an exceptional case, Vasseur informed.

Right from the start, Alonso, the party that suffered the crash, wanted to defend his compatriot.

– The penalty is probably too harsh, because it is always difficult to judge grip in the first round. I don’t think anyone will intentionally hit another car, because it is extremely risky also for their own race, he said.

Three different outcomes

Undoubtedly, the jury’s actions lacked logic, because just a few seconds after Sainz’s crash, the Alpine drivers Pierre Gasly and Esteban Ocon kicked each other out of the race.

The French duo were called before the jury to give their version of the events.

This is also what Ferrari’s complaint is about.

– It would be an advantage for the sport if three events on the same bend did not all have different results, Vasseur continued.

Ferrari must present new and significant evidence in order for the complaint to be processed. If that happens, Sainz gets to tell his own version of what happened.
