Ahead of the end of the season, Transfermarkt updated the market values of 815 players from Argentina’s Liga Profesional de Fútbol. At the top are two top talents from River Plate: Claudio Echeverri (18) and Franco Mastantuono (17). While Echeverri, whose loan is about to end and a move to Manchester City is imminent, remains unchanged at 18 million euros, Mastantuono records the second-largest increase in the league from 2 million to 15 million euros. There is also an upgrade for Alejo Sarco (18), who is reportedly about to move to Bayer Leverkusen.

“Mastantuono, along with Echeverri, is the most promising player in Argentina,” says Scott Christensen, Area Manager Argentina & South America. “He has already been linked to Real Madrid and I am confident that even if it doesn’t end up being Real, he will still end up at a top European club. He is left-footed, very skilful, has a good overview and is a good dribbler. Playing regularly for a top team like River at just 17 also speaks for him.”

Like Mastantuono, Julio Soler (19) from CA Lanús, another youngster, has increased by 2 million euros and, with 8 million euros, has moved into the top 10 of the most valuable footballers in the Argentine upper house. “Soler is regularly linked with some top clubs, especially Liverpool, but recently also Man United,” says Christensen. “He is a very attack-oriented left-back who is similar in characteristics to Oleksandr Zinchenko from Arsenal. Although he is still very young, he is already a regular player at Lanús. I think he’s a great talent and I wouldn’t be surprised if we see him in the Argentina national team sooner rather than later.”

One player to watch is Vélez Sarsfield striker Sarco, who looks set to join Bayer 04 on a free transfer in January. “He is a big promise, but had some problems with Vélez because he refused to sign a new contract and was therefore no longer part of the team,” admits Christensen. “So we didn’t see much of him, but it was already known in the youth teams that he was a promising player. He is now getting an upgrade solely because he is moving to a better league.” The Argentine U20 national player increases slightly from 500,000 to 800,000 euros

This is how transfer market market values work

The transfer market market values are created taking into account various pricing models as well as a strong involvement of the transfer market community, which deals with the values in detailed discussions. The transfer market market values cannot generally be equated with the transfer fees actually paid.

The goal is not to predict a price, but rather an expected value. When determining the market value, both individual transfer modalities and situational conditions are relevant to a certain extent. Examples of this will be here listed. Transfermarkt does not use an algorithm (for a detailed definition of market value).
