Mario Basler predicts a bleak future

The fact that Mario Basler doesn’t mince his words is nothing new. In his podcast “Basler ballert”, the former Hertha BSC player shot against his ex-club and made a gloomy forecast.

“It started with Jürgen Klinsmann. They wanted to be the Big City Club. They brought Jens Lehmann to the board. They tried to build something there that didn’t work in the end,” explained the ex-Bayern star.

Basler was particularly critical of the constant criticism of ex-managing director Fredi Bobic: “I think it’s under all guns to make Bobic responsible for everything that has to do with Hertha.”

The stumbling block was the recent statements by Hertha legend “Zecke” Neuendorf. At a general meeting last week, Bobic had assumed that he had put the team together badly.

Basler sure: “Hertha will disappear from the scene”

“I find it very dramatic that a former player like Zecke Neuendorf blasphemes in public about Fredi Bobic. He blames Fredi Bobic for everything, why they are in this situation, why they are in financial difficulties. You have to consider that Fredi came to Berlin a year and a half ago,” summarized Basler.

Neuendorf might just be angry because Bobic fired him at the end of November 2021 as assistant to head coach Pál Dárdai, the 30-time national player suspected. He thinks it’s a shame that Neuendorf, “who was also limited in terms of football”, says such things about Bobic.

For the future of the Berliners, however, Basler sees black: “I think that Hertha will disappear from the scene and in the next few years people will only talk about Union. It’s like ten pinpricks in one.” In his opinion, Hertha will relegate and not return to the German upper house in the coming years.
