The damage is extensive after a major fire at a garage in Norg. The fire at the building at Westeind started yesterday afternoon. The building has been completely destroyed and is largely in ruins.
Because the fire produced a lot of smoke, an NL alert was sent. Corps from both Drenthe and Groningen were called in to extinguish the fire.
The fire brigade worked until late in the evening to extinguish any remaining fire. An excavator was used to give firefighters better access to the smoldering remains.
Due to the fire, several residents on Molenstraat and Kerkhofsdrift had to leave their homes. They were allowed back after the fire brigade had checked the homes.
The fire broke out in a building next to a gas station. The fire brigade managed to prevent the fire from spreading to the gas station. According to the fire brigade, the business premises cannot be saved.
Several bangs were heard while the fire was being extinguished. According to the VRD, this was because there were gas bottles in the building.
