Marijke Helwegen has experienced a horrible time that still gives her anxious feelings. She was stalked by a 15-year-old girl and things really got out of hand.
Many celebrities will sooner or later have to deal with stalkers. There are a lot of crazy people in our country and if you expose yourself on a mass medium, you will soon have to deal with them. 77-year-old Marijke Helwegen has also experienced the downside of the celebrity medal. The society grandmother has been stalked by a girl of only 15 (!) years old.
‘She showed up everywhere’
It was really horrible, says Marijke. “In 2017, there was a fifteen-year-old girl who admired me very much. This was reflected in the fact that she started following me. She was very driven and wanted to get her way. She rang our doorbell every time, and even her mother came with her,” she says in the Weekend.
She continues: “In retrospect, perhaps because she was worried about her child. That girl wanted to look like me. She was of course still very blue, so young. I had offered her to come with me once to create online content. But at a certain point she started to irritate me enormously, because she showed up everywhere I was.”
Anorexic patients
That girl really went everywhere she was, according to Marijke. “This also applies to my day chairs for anorexia patients. Just like me, she wanted to be in the spotlight, to look beautiful and to give presentations. But as a teenager she was still very much searching for her identity.”
She continues: “At a certain point I really couldn’t handle it anymore when her father took her back to the place where I was. I thought all kinds of things because she had previously tried to get my login details for ‘the online content’.”
Through the ribbon
According to Marijke, trying to retrieve her login details really went too far. “I was on holiday at the time and received all kinds of notifications, after which I went completely crazy. That could only be one person.”
“I then called her father to say that this was really no longer possible. It made me completely hyper. Now I block people if it no longer feels right.”
