Margot Robbie Barbie: the looks inspired by the Mattel doll

THE‘ma Barbie girl, in a Barbie world… Life in plastic, it’s fantastic sang Aqua in 1997. She must have found herself particularly at ease in the imaginative universe of Mattel’s most famous doll Margot Robbie: the actress interprets Barbie at the cinema but even on the red carpet. The characterization does not stop at the silky blond hair and the long legs always perfectly balanced on anything but comfortable heels. It is the result of painstaking syling work (branded Andrew Mukamal). For the promotional tour of the film directed by Greta Gerwigto be released in Italy on July 20th, Margot Robbie has chosen looks all inspired by the Barbie style, including the inevitable shades of pink and 1950s polka dots.

Barbie life (and wardrobe).

The film is undoubtedly one of the most anticipated of the year. The director is cult, the cast is stellar (including among others Ryan Gosling, Kate McKinnon, Will Ferrell, America Ferrera), signed by Dua Lipa an unreleased song from the soundtrack. But Margot Robbie’s outfits are of fundamental importance for fueling expectations and making hype grow: a contemporary declination of the taste and style of the icon doll of childhood for millions of girls. The key elements of the Barbie wardrobe? High-waisted miniskirts, crop tops with shoulder pads, little dresses with a bon ton flavour. Preferably in a particular shade of roseas refined as it is ironic.

Barbie for all occasions

Starting from the Los Angeles presentation of Greta Gerwig’s film, Margot Robbie has left nothing to chance. The chosen outfit was a little dress with crossover detail, polka dot print and unmistakable Pink PP shade, designed by Pierpaolo Piccioli For Valentineinspired by a creation by the maison part of the Spring Summer 1993 collection. A dive into the maison’s archive which coincides with the re-enactment of a look worthy of a Barbie from the 1950s, feminine and daring.

But even the arrival in airport it can be a tempting opportunity to show off your Barbie soul. Margot Robbie did it a couple of days ago by landing in Sydney. The styled look featured a cropped tartan jacket, white crop top, gray high-waisted trousers and branded belt, all straight from the runway at Chanel Spring Summer 1996. Aallure vintage that has not overlooked the luggage, also pink, by Streamline Luggage, worthy of a special edition for the Mattel doll.

That the bond between Margot Robbie and Barbie would not end after the last take has been clear since the appearance at Cinemacon last April. The look of Prada flaunted on that occasion, characterized by a crop top and miniskirt in a red and white checked print, in fact already foreshadowed a press tour with a high degree of glamor. The trait d’union of many of Robbie’s looks? The mules open toe with stiletto heel Louboutin: they look like they came straight out of Barbie’s closet.

In short, while waiting to see the film in theaters, the journey into the colorful and fun universe of Barbie has already begun.
