A long career in the judiciary

Cassano has a long career in the judiciary, where since 1980 he has been a member of the Independent Judiciarythe current of robes that defines itself as more “moderate”.

This last milestone is not, however, the first achieved: in fact, Cassano had already been the first woman to access the leadership of the Supreme Court with the role of “number two” of the Cassation which he has held since 2020.

At the time Cassano said: «The day will come when an appointment like mine will no longer be news, and then yes, for real, that will be a great day for all women».

A life for work

She started at the Public Prosecutor’s Office in Florence, then in 1982 she joined the team of the prosecutor Pier Luigi Vigna with whom she was a prosecutor for years, coordinating the first investigations into large drug trafficking and infiltrations in Tuscany of organized crime, themes that he continued to follow throughout his career.

From 1991 to 1998 she was assigned the District Anti-Mafia Directorate of Florence.

Then it landed at the Court of Cassation in 2003 where she was also president of the first criminal section, a role in which she dealt with crimes of murder and violence. After that since 2016 she has presided over the Court of Appeal of Florence where she remained for about four years. Now, from next March 1 she will be the highest-ranking judge in Italy. He will become a member of the self-governing body of the robes, the Csm.
