Marco Schwarz won the overall Slalom World Cup four years ago and became world champion. This was followed by a serious injury time.

Marco Schwarz won Olympic silver with the team in 2018 and two years ago World Cup bronze in the giant slalom. Finally, however, the ski racer was slowed down by injuries. First the 29-year-old had a cruciate ligament tear (December 2023), then a herniated disc surgery. He is currently in training with the team and has learned a lot for the coming season, as he revealed in an interview with the “Kurier” from Austria.

The ÖSV athlete said: “I am very, very happy because my body is playing again.” Then he explained: “I was a driven, I learned a lot last year. The body has the top priority. If it pinches, I take out and no longer go over the pain.”

Therefore, he no longer wanted to start in all disciplines. He has his sights on the Super-G for this winter. In addition, the Austrian no longer burdens his body as much as before. He expects running units and jumps because they would use his knee too much. “I just don’t want to take any risk,” emphasized the all -rounder.

The slalom is close to the heart. However, the field of participants there is tight, so Schwarz also has a plan B, should that no longer work in the future. “When I see that I no longer have any chances, then I may be adding the descent,” he said.

However, the ski ace also knows that 500 World Cup points are necessary. Schwarz had won the overall ranking in the Slalom World Cup in the 2020/21 season. He also became world champion in the combination in 2021.
