Tragedy in Italy: A ski talent died there after a serious accident. The young athlete was only 18 years old.

The Italian skiing mourns one of its most promising talents: 18-year-old Marco Degli Uomini died after a serious training accident.

The young athlete had fallen heavily when entering a race on Monte Zoncolan. After a jump around 40 to 70 meters, he lost control and crashed into the fishing nets. Uomini sustained several heavy breaks on the legs and on the wrist.

At first it was available. In a last phone call with his mother Cristina Barbarino, he said: “Mom, I fell, I must have broken my legs. Stay calm.” But his condition suddenly deteriorated quickly in the Udine hospital. The doctors fought in vain for his life.

The Skiklub Monte Dauda, for which Uomini was active, said goodbye to a Facebook post with emotional words: “Thank you for your huge heart, thank you for your sincerity, thanks for loyalty and fairness. You will always stay with us.” All other races of the regional championship in Friuli were canceled after the accident.

Uomini had already participated in international FIS races and was considered a promising talent in Italian skiing. The tragic accident also evokes memories of the death of Matilde Lorenzi. The young skier died in a training fall last October.
