Do you have a real care heart, but not a suitable diploma for a job in healthcare? Are you ready for a career switch, but don’t want to be in school every day? Be internally trained as a care worker at Well -house! Here you learn everything you need to know about the profession, you can immediately roll up your sleeves and you will immediately get paid for the work you do.

Marcel Kaptein is 49 years old and has now been working for a year with the three -year caregiver at Well -house. One day a week he follows theory lessons, the rest of the time he learns the work in practice at the Vivaldi residential care location in Zoetermeer. That is a big switch compared to Marcelel’s previous track: “I have worked in horticulture for twenty -five years.”

Switch

“I wanted to do something else with my life, but I didn’t know what,” says Marcel. A test that would suit him for career showed that work in healthcare would be a good match for him. “After that test I contacted Welthuis to see if they were still looking for students there. After the first interview I was able to test run under supervision, then I started the training. Here I started working with residents with dementia. “

Now Marcel works in the Somatics department, where care is provided to people who cannot live independently due to a physical disability. With the help of his work supervisor and colleagues with a care diploma, he learns the practice of work as a carer here. “You start with the basic needs of people, from brushing teeth to supporting when walking. Ultimately, you also learn to administer medication and take care of wounds. “

Shift

The transition from horticulture to healthcare was just switching for Marcel. “At first I had a completely different picture of healthcare,” he says. “Wash from buttocks and dress people. But the care is much wider than that. You are there to help people with what they can no longer do. For me it feels like an honor to make their days as beautiful as possible. “

In addition to his education, Marcel also has a family. “That is easy to combine,” he says. “I have fixed days off that I can spend with my children; Welthuis is flexible in that. They think along with me and help where necessary. I have only been busy for a year, but I already feel how much my contribution is appreciated. “

Help from within

“When I just started as a student and knew nothing yet, a lady lived in my department who had also worked in healthcare in the past,” says Marcel. “In addition to supporting my work supervisor and colleagues, she also helped me a lot. She gave me instructions and tips when washing and putting on her support stockings. As a beginner, that helped me enormously. “

“This lady recently died. When I condolenced the family, her children told how she loved me. That really touched me. That I as a caregiver can have such a big impact on someone’s life is great. “

A real care heart

Marcel recommends working in healthcare for anyone who has a warm heart for the care. “You can also contribute by working in the kitchen, or by walking with people as a volunteer. Switching to care is one of the best choices I made. This work is so grateful, people get a smile on their faces when they see you. That is the best thing you can take home. I am proud that I made a career switch with forty -nine years and started training again. ”
