Marc-André Ter Stegen wants to stay at FC Barcelona, but FC Barcelona wants to hand in. Now the German goalkeeper was missing at the training ground at the start.

The future of Marc-André Ter Stegen remains uncertain. Ter Stegen himself wants to be the German number one at the 2026 World Cup, but he has to play in the club. FC Barcelona, where he is still under contract until 2028, has signed Joan García from City Rival Espanyol as a new goalkeeper and has also extended the contract with substitute Wojciech Szczęsny. Trainer Hansi Flick is also said to have announced Ter Stegen last week that he was only a third goalkeeper.

This is one of the reasons why the Spanish master’s first training was on the eyes of Ter Stegen before the new season. But the 33-year-old was missing on the lawn. As the club announced, it stayed in the club’s fitness room and trained alone. An injury is not the reason.

After his serious knee injury, which had put him out of the prison of large parts of the past season, Ter Stegen had returned at the end of the season and had also played for the German national team again. In the Nation’s League games against Portugal and France, the native of Mönchengladbacher was in goal. Nevertheless, it was not enough to participate in team training in Barcelona. It is not known whether it was a decision of Ter Stegens or the team of coaches. In addition to Joan García and Wojciech Szczęsny, Iñaki Peña was also the third goalkeeper.

Wherever Stegen’s journey leads remains unclear. Most recently, he was associated with the AS Monaco, Manchester United and Galatasaray. The rumors did not specifically.
