Tragic incident at the marathon between Nice and Cannes: A runner collapses shortly before the finish and dies on the spot.
A participant died shortly before the finish line in the “Marathon des Alpes-Maritimes” in southern France. As the organizers announced on Facebook, the runner suffered a cardiac arrest. “Despite immediate care from our rescue workers, the victim could not be revived,” the post says.
According to French media, it was a 27-year-old man from Alsace. He is said to have been well prepared and trained regularly. “He was a well-prepared man,” France 3 quoted the organizers as saying. In the newspaper “Nice Matin” organizer Pascal Thiriot explained: “He has been preparing for the marathon for a year. He was ready.”
The mayors of Cannes and Nice expressed their condolences to the family.
