Maradona murals in Naples, interview Salvatore Iodice, the carpenter who restored it

That image on a building in Piazzetta degli Artisti in Naples has become a place of worship. Mario Filardi painted it 33 years ago, the carpenter Salvatore Iodice has restored it: “I did it for the people of the neighborhood”

Under the six-story building with peeling plaster there is a long procession. For months, at any time of the day or evening, thousands of onlookers have arrived at number 46 in via Emanuele de Deo to be impressed. What has always been Largo degli Artisti is now called Piazzetta Maradona. Diego’s mural on the side facade of that apartment building has become a place of worship.
