Christmas is the season of fragrances. But what scents are slipped into the basket? At Sokos, consumers are especially interested in novelty fragrances and products sold in gift boxes at this time of year.

Among the five best-selling women’s fragrances in Sokos is Boss’s The Scent For Her, which is especially bought by middle-aged people, while Valentino’s Born in Roma, another top 5 list, is bought by teenagers and young adults.

Bright Crystal by Versace is also on the top 5 list, which combines pomegranate, yuzu, magnolia and peony. Bright Crystal appeals to all age groups, and is also bought as a first scent.

Vanilla does not disappoint

The top 5 list also includes Lancome’s La vie est Belle Vanille Nude and Burberry’s Goddess, which represent the current vanilla trend.

– Vanilla is a perennial favorite in women’s fragrances. Creamy and caramel-like notes also soften scents, says the beauty expert Minna Mähönen From Sokos.

Mähönen says that the popularity of gourmande fragrances also continues among women.

– Berries such as cherry and strawberry in the fragrance notes have been favorites this year. For men, different nuances of leather tinted with pepper or even ginger are popular. Lavender is also a rising trend for men, Mähönen continues.

You can also find vanilla scents on Stockmann’s list of best-selling women’s fragrances for autumn. Among the six best-selling fragrances are YSL Libre Vanilla Couture and Matiere Premiere Vanilla Powder. Both represent the vanilla trend, says Stockmann’s Stockmann’s beauty category manager Tiina Elovaara.

– Young people are especially interested in these, but also more mature lovers of vanilla, sweeter scents.

Byredo is a favorite of those who shop at Stockmann

One brand dominates the list of Stockmann’s best-selling fragrances. No less than three of Stockmann’s six best-selling women’s fragrances are Byredon. Byredo Bal d’Afrique EdP, Byredo Mojave Ghost EdP and Byredo Gypsy Water EdP are performing on the top 6 list.

Byredo’s scents are preferred by people of all ages who prefer lighter scents.

One of Stockmann’s best-selling women’s fragrances is Chanel’s Chance Eau Splendide EdP. Many of Chanel’s fragrances have loyal users, including this one, but Chance Eau Splendide has also become a popular gift fragrance, according to the sellers in the fragrance department.

It is worth noting that today many favorite fragrances are unisex fragrances.

– In the Christmas season, the popularity of unisex fragrances is emphasized, and we also have brands such as Chanel, Byredo, Diptyque and many niche fragrances in our exclusive selection. Also new brands like Ex Nihilo will certainly be popular, says Elovaara.

At the same time, the classics, which can be found for example from Chanel, Dior, Yves Saint Laurent and Armani, hold their ground year after year.

– The biggest surprises can be found in smaller niche brands, which especially young consumers know and value well, says Elovaara.
