This bike race is famous – and notorious. There were a few falls directly on the first kilometers of Paris-Roubaix.
At the famous one-day classic Paris-Roubaix on Sunday there were already several falls of cycling professionals. The 250 -kilometer route, which leads over cobblestones in many parts, is very demanding – and the race quickly.
After around 140 kilometers, the Peleton drove an average of 49 km/h. And some professionals had to be involuntarily off the bike early on. So it only hit Michele Gazzoli (XDS Astana) and Manlio Moro (Movistar) after 77 kilometers. In contrast to his opponent, the latter could not continue and had to give up. He may have suffered an injury to the collarbone.
Even after 90 kilometers there was a fall and only ten kilometers later the next. On the asphalt in a slippery curve, several professionals slipped away. Among other things, Lidl-Treks Jasper Stuyven and Jasper Philipsen (Alpecin-Deceuninck) included. Philipsen was able to continue, but lost a lot of time.
In the meantime, it was with Filippo Ganna (Ineos Grenadiers) over a minute behind the main field when the Lidl-Trek team put on the pace at the front. They may want to get rid of the teammate from one of the favorites, Mathieu van der Poel, so that he loses the connection. However, the plan did not work, because Philipsen and Ganna managed to join Peleton again. Philipsen and Van der Poel can work together for a possible victory.
In addition, there were all minor problems in between: Wout Van Aert (Visma Lease A Bike), who is also one of the best, had to fight back in the meantime. However, he also managed to catch up at the top around van der Poel and Tour-de-France winner Tadej Pogačar (UAE Team Emirates-XRG). The classic ends in the late afternoon.
