Does Manuel Neuer want to stay at FC Bayern for another year – and should he at all? The goalkeeper smiles away the exciting question of the future.

Manuel Neuer continues to leave his future open – and remains calm about it. After FC Bayern’s clear 4-0 win in the Champions League against FC Brugge, the captain responded to the question about a possible contract extension with a wink.

“I have to pay attention to my bones. It’s already late and I’m noticing it again now. Let’s see what it’s like when I get up,” said the 39-year-old on Thursday night.

Neuer’s contract expires at the end of the season. An extension for another year is being intensively discussed in Munich – it would postpone the transition in goal again. When asked how he normally feels in the morning, Neuer first answered with a look at the medical care: “Yes, the doctor is just passing by now. I have to wait a moment.” He then added with a smile: “There are good – and better days.”

The German record champions remain flawless after their twelfth competitive win in a row. In the Champions League group, Munich are currently in second place behind defending champions Paris Saint-Germain. Both teams have nine points after three games. The direct duel follows in two weeks in Paris.

For coach Vincent Kompany, however, the future is already settled. The Belgian extended his contract early until June 30, 2029. This is understandable for Neuer. He said it was “the logical step.” Kompany and his team are doing “very good work”. It’s fun to play in this team.
