The largest sports association in the world, the DFB, is on a confrontational course with the Swiss-based Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA). The reason: Like other teams, the German Football Association wants to wear its own captain’s armband at the World Cup that has just started in Qatar.

A colorful heart and the slogan “One Love” can be seen on the bangle made of elastic fabric. This symbolic statement was conceived by the Koninklijke Nederlandse Voetbal Bond (KNVB). The Dutch wanted to send a universal signal against homophobia, anti-Semitism and racism as well as for human and women’s rights.

The world association FIFA is against these bandages. The Germans and other national associations then went into clinch with the international umbrella organization.

On ZDF, DFB boss Neuendorf said on the opening day of the World Cup (November 20): “We’re sticking to the fact that we’re wearing the bandage. We have not come to a common denominator here.”

Now the roll backwards:

International sports news and media agencies report that Neuer will not wear the colorful symbol armband in the three preliminary round games in Qatar after all. The DFB announced on Monday (November 21) that the German Football Association and the other national associations involved would forego the campaign due to the threat of FIFA sanctions.
