FC Bayern Munich has to make do without Manuel Neuer for the time being. The goalkeeper was injured in the draw against Mainz.

Bayern Munich will have to do without captain Manuel Neuer “for the time being”. As the club announced on Monday, the goalkeeper tore a muscle fiber on the back of his right thigh in the 2-2 (1-1) draw against FSV Mainz 05 on Sunday. This was revealed by medical examinations, as the club announced on its website.

The club did not provide any information about the exact duration of the outage. According to information from “Bild”, the goalkeeper should be fit again in the new year in order to be back on the pitch in the duel against VfL Wolfsburg on January 11th.

Neuer played the entire 90 minutes against Mainz. So far this season he has played twelve games in the Bundesliga and all six games in the Champions League as well as the round of 16 game in the DFB Cup against Union Berlin.

In the final game of the year on Sunday (5:30 p.m.) at 1. FC Heidenheim, Jonas Urbig is likely to be in goal again for Neuer; the substitute keeper has made four appearances so far this season.
