Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim celebrated his first full year at the helm of the English giant on Saturday.
In honor of that, Amorim named an unchanged starting line-up for the first time in his Premier League career.
United’s winning streak, which lasted the whole of October, meant that a full points pot as a guest of Nottingham Forest would have already lifted the team to second place in the league.
Based on the opening period, an away win was completely possible, because the visitors were leading the match Casemiro scoring 1–0 with a special situation goal.
Forest experienced a miscarriage of justice in the situation, because United received a corner kick, even though it was the home team Nicolò Savona saved the ball to the side of the field even before it had crossed the end line in its entirety.
However, the linesman flagged the situation as a corner, not the referee Darren England the corner was enough to reverse the decision.
Black minute
However, the beginning of the second period turned the match on its head, because Morgan Gibbs-White and Savona hit the goal man within a little over a minute.
If, on the other hand, Forest had held on to their 2–1 lead, they would have already grabbed their fourth consecutive league victory over United. The last time Nottingham had succeeded in this was 115 years ago in the autumn of 1910.
In the end, neither of them got the full point pot because Amad Diallo shot the most beautiful goal of the evening with a counter-ball volley and at the same time finished the score 2–2.
