Manchester United snap up World Cup hero

English football record champions Manchester United have secured the services of Morocco’s World Cup hero Sofyan Amrabat. The 27-year-old midfield clearer, who was also traded as a possible reinforcement at FC Bayern at times, is moving to Manchester from the Italian first division club AC Florenz for a season on loan.

According to media reports, a purchase option should be anchored in the deal. At the World Cup in Qatar, Sofyan Amrabat surprised with Morocco, which finished fourth.

“It’s a great honor to play for Manchester United. I’ve had to wait patiently for this moment, but I’m someone who always listens to my heart and now I represent the club of my dreams,” Amrabat said in an official statement Red Devils quotes.

And further: “I am a passionate player, I want to bring this energy to the team and I will give everything in every action that I do for the team.”

One reason for the move to Manchester is coach Erik ten Hag, according to Amrabat. “I know exactly how Erik ten Hag likes to work and what he expects from his players. His coaching and guidance have helped me a lot as a player in my career. I know he will help me to get the best out of my abilities , so I can help the group be successful this season.”

Manchester coach an old friend

Ten Hag promoted Amrabat to the first team at FC Utrecht in 2015 and almost always relied on the midfielder for two years. In 2017, ten Hag finally moved to Ajax Amsterdam, Amrabat left Utrecht for Feyenoord.

Meanwhile, United sport boss John Murtogh also commented on the transfer: “We have been following Sofyan for a long time and are very pleased that we were able to bring him to Manchester United. His committed, energetic way of playing fits perfectly with the group we are building here .”
