Manchester United: Former goalkeeper David de Gea is thinking about ending his career

If there is no top-level offer

With a market value of 13 million euros, David de Gea is currently not only the most valuable goalkeeper without a club, but also leads the ranking of all footballers without a club worldwide. If the 32-year-old Spaniard doesn’t receive a suitable offer, he will consider ending his career, writes the “Guardian“.

Accordingly, the long-time Manchester United keeper doesn’t want to let his career run out, but wants to prove himself once again at the highest level and is therefore looking for a big club where he can be number one. In the past few months, the 45-time Spanish national goalkeeper had been traded by FC Bayern Munich and Real Madrid, among others, who had a need for this position. However, both clubs decided on other alternatives with Daniel Peretz (23) and Kepa Arrizabalaga (28).

It is said that offers from Saudi Arabia were not an option for de Gea. He rejected several from this region because money was not the main motive when looking for a new employer. At United he is said to have earned around 22 million euros gross. In the transfer market rumor mill, de Gea was linked with Al-Nassr FC, where he would have met Cristiano Ronaldo (38), with whom he played 53 times in his career.

The Madrilenian native left the “Red Devils” in the summer after 545 appearances because his contract had not been extended. It was recently said that this would only have come about with a significant salary cut. De Gea spent twelve years between the posts at Man United, where he moved from Atlético in 2011 for a fee of 25 million euros – at the time the fourth-highest fee ever paid for a goalkeeper. In Man United’s goalkeeping history, de Gea is at the top of the list in terms of appearances for the club. Referring only to the Premier League since it was founded in 1992, he is one of only three professionals from the record champions to have played more than 400 games. With Paul Scholes (48) and Ryan Giggs (49), there are only two club icons and no other goalkeeper ahead of him.
