Despite great investments, Manchester United is about to take a sporty overthrow. A similar disaster is expected to present the financial figures on Wednesday.

Manchester United is about to disclose its economic reality: on Wednesday the club will publish its year – and thus also make the entire extent of the financial problems visible. Minority owner Jim Ratcliffe had already warned in March that the 20-time English champion could run out of money by the end of 2025.

In a message to investors, the club, noted at the New York Stock Exchange, announced that the financial report for the financial year ended on June 30th on September 17th at 1 p.m. was published.

Behind Manchester United is a turbulent year – sporty and structural. The team ended the Premier League season in a historically bad 15th place, while the association also released hundreds of employees in extensive job cancellations.

Ratcliffe, who invested around £ 300 million (around 407 million euros) in the spring of 2024, stuck clear tones at the time: “To put it simply, the club has spent more than taken over in the past seven years-and this leads to a very difficult point,” said the head of the chemical producer Ineos in March.

For the top club, which is currently in 14th place, this point could be reached at the end of the year – then the club would be threatened with the association, Ratcliffe continued.

In the previous year, the traditional club had already shown a net loss of the equivalent of 130.8 million euros (£ 113.2 million)-for the financial year to June 2024. At the same time, gross debt (own assets were not in counter, editor’s note) at around 632 million euros (547 million pounds)-exactly 20 years after taking over from the Glazer family, which the club had taken over at the time with a heavily loan -financed deal. Before that, Manchester United was debt free.

Despite all the criticism, the Glazers remain majority owners of the club. Ratcliffes Ineos Group took over a share of 27.7 percent in February 2024-including control over the sporting fortunes at United. A sporting and economic improvement has not occurred since then. Therefore, all fans and employees look at Wednesday.
