Manchester City could sign another expensive transfer this winter alongside Omar Marmoush. The English champions are also working on signing Andrea Cambiaso from Juventus. The full-back had increased his market value from 15 to 40 million euros in the 2024 calendar year and could now pour money into Turin’s cash-strapped coffers.
According to Italian transfer reporter Gianluca Di Marzio, Manchester is currently preparing an offer in the range of 60 to 65 million euros. Although this offer is significantly higher than the 24-year-old’s current market value, the Bianconeri are apparently entering the transfer poker game. There is talk of a claim of 80 million euros. This sum would make Cambiaso the fifth most expensive sale by a Serie A club and the most expensive defender in league history. On the access side, only Matthijs de Ligt was more expensive in 2019, for whom Juventus paid Ajax Amsterdam €85.5 million.
It remains to be seen whether Manchester is prepared to raise the required sum. If the Citizens complete both the transfers of Marmoush and Cambiaso, they would become only the seventh team to break the €100 million spending mark in a winter transfer window. With a transfer fee of 80 million euros each, they would be in second place, but Chelsea FC’s record from the winter of 2023 with 329.5 million euros will remain unmatched.
Cambiaso comes from Genoa’s youth system and came to Juventus in the summer of 2022 for 13.3 million euros. After a loan to FC Bologna in the first season, the two-footed defender established himself as a regular player in Turin last year and became an Italian national player. Only 13 full-backs worldwide have a higher market value; in the Man City squad, Rico Lewis (20) is also valued at 40 million euros.
