What a crazy thing that always is with Duncan Laurence: he really wants to be the great artist, but as soon as he holds a microphone, he spontaneously has a panic attack. The singer gave a concert in Paradiso on Saturday evening and also The Telegraph was there; the reporter on duty was stunned when he called it a day after just an hour.

Abrupt ending

It was bizarre, says reporter Richard van de Crommert. “It ended quite abruptly. After seventy minutes he gave up and left the room. (…) The fans present at that moment simply could not believe that the performance was already over. Everyone kept waiting in Paradiso to see if anything would come. But Duncan was relentless.”

Maybe we just ran out of hits after an hour? No, says Richard. He missed songs like Love don’t hate it and Feel something. “The fact that he had not yet played those songs made it more unbelievable to us that the performance was already over. But Duncan really left it at that. I’m quite disappointed,” said a fan in the newspaper.

What’s going on?

It is a strange situation, says show expert Bart Ettekoven Show news. “After more than an hour he sang Arcade and then it suddenly ended. People thought there would be an intermezzo from the balcony or something, but that didn’t happen. The audience sang ‘we want more’ and expected him to do a few more songs.”

But not so nice. “People really dropped out, some were really angry and disappointed and didn’t understand it. It seemed like something unexpected had happened, some people thought: is there something wrong with him?”

‘Nothing, zero, nada’

According to Bart, nothing is right at all. He points out that Duncan hasn’t said hello to his fans either. “Nothing, zero, nada. It happened after 65 minutes and an hour is a short time. A concert usually lasts an hour and a half plus.”

What does Duncan’s management say? They act very strange and remain silent. “We tried to reach management. We have called several times, but they do not answer and do not want to say anything about it. Duncan himself acts as if his nose is bleeding on Instagram, because he thanks his fans and says: ‘Thank you Amsterdam.’”

‘Always bring something’

Anouk Smulders is starting to get a bit tired of Duncan. “Isn’t there always something wrong with him?”

Colleague Guido den Aantrekker: “He has also previously been accused of arrogant behavior and star allure. He also turned out to have a number of phobias, which sometimes made him not want to rehearse.”

Bart points to his Eurovision Song Contest performance, a year after his win. “A rehearsal band was then started because he was kind of nervous breakdown got. It’s true, he has some issues every now and then…”
