Man who raped autistic girl (14) in Velsen-Noord gets 2 years in prison

The 31-year-old man who lured a 14-year-old autistic girl and raped her in Velsen-Noord in August 2022 will receive a prison sentence of 2 years, of which 1 year is conditional. It is a punishment that the girl’s family had hoped for in advance.

Eighteen months ago, the victim, who was 14 years old at the time, arranged to meet the man online in Zoeterwoude-Rijndijk. From there he drove half an hour to Velsen-Noord, where he found her under the influence of cocaine, weed and ‘a sex pill’. at a friend’s apartment raped her, then brought her home again.

Almost immediately, the girl told friends and her mother what had happened. According to the mother, she is still in very bad shape, both mentally and physically. “You have made our lives hell,” she snapped at the perpetrator in court two weeks ago.

Deep regret

There the man stammered and expressed deep regret several times. “It should never have happened,” he kept repeating. He also confessed to almost all charges. The judge will take that attitude into account in the final sentence today.

The Public Prosecution Service had demanded 3 years in prison. According to the suspect’s lawyer, the six months in pre-trial detention were punishment enough. The judge intervened and gave a 2-year prison sentence, 1 of which was conditional. Due to the deduction of the pre-trial detention, the man will have to spend at least another six months in prison.

The girl’s grandfather said after the hearing two weeks ago that he would be satisfied with the sentence that has now been given: “I hope he will at least have to go back to prison for a while,” he said at the time.

The issue is not yet completely closed: perhaps the woman who made her Velsen-Noord apartment available also has to appear. The Public Prosecution Service says it is still considering this.
