Man United sign Lisandro Martínez: Ajax release transfer details

Release details released

Lisandro Martínez’s transfer to Manchester United, which has been looming in the past few days, is as good as official. Both clubs confirmed the move of the 24-year-old central defender on Sunday, while Ajax also released the financial details. The Eredivisie series champion receives 57.37 million euros immediately, with bonuses, the sum can increase by a further 10 million euros. Only the medical examinations and formalities relating to the visa required for the change still have to be clarified.

According to media reports, Erik ten Hag, under whom Martínez made 120 appearances (6 goals, 6 assists) at Ajax, was a strong advocate for the move to the island. In a double pack with right winger Antony (22), who is also in the focus of Man United, the Dutchman wants to implement his game philosophy with the English record champions, who won four championship titles in a row in the Eredivisie.

For his project, ten Hag paid a lot for the services of Martínez. Even with the base amount, the right foot ranks third among the most expensive Ajax sales in history (to the statistics). Only Frenkie de Jong (€86m to FC Barcelona) and Matthijs de Ligt (€85.5m to Juventus) brought in more money in the summer of 2019. Only ten times as much was spent on a defender, and the top 10 beckons when the bonuses occur.
