As of: 07/17/2022 4:19 p.m

The promotion favorites Hamburger SV scored a flattering away win at the start of the second division. With two goals from Robert Glatzel (67th/76th minute), HSV won 2-0 (0-0) on Sunday (07/17/2022) at the strong promoted team Eintracht Braunschweig.

In front of 21,900 spectators, the Lower Saxony missed a number of great chances, especially in the first half. HSV, on the other hand, disappointed almost all high expectations and for a long time was most noticed by the repeated firing of flares in the guest fan block.

The northern derby had started late because the players first had to clear the remains of the fireworks from the lawn.

Braunschweig with six great chances in half one

Hamburg began the season with just two additions to the starting XI, Ransford-Yeboah Königsdörffer up front and Laszlo Benes in midfield. The advantage of this occupation: Actually, the team should be more coordinated than all other teams in the league. The downside: Everyone there has slowly adapted to the HSV style.

And so, in the first half alone, Braunschweig missed six big chances according to almost the same pattern: winning the ball in their own half, through the ball forward, good final position in front of goalkeeper Daniel Heuer Fernandes. Fabio Kaufmann (3rd/32nd), Jan Hendrik Marx (11th), Lion Lauberbach (14th/20th) and Philipp Strompf (45th) each had an overdue Eintracht lead on their heads and on their feet. The Hamburgers neither prevented such situations nor did they keep up with the counterattacks.

Penalty decision overturned

Despite having a lot of ball possession, HSV only had a few chances to score. However, the favorite built up increasing pressure after the next Braunschweig chances (57th/64th). In the end he had a goalscorer and merciless efficiency ahead of Eintracht. A penalty for Braunschweig was taken back after video evidence (81st).

On the second match day, HSV will welcome Hansa Rostock next Sunday at 1.30 p.m. Eintracht Braunschweig takes on 1. FC Heidenheim on Saturday at 1 p.m.
