A 26 -year -old man goes into jail for a year because he stolen hundreds of supboards, swimming pool tents and trampolines in 2023. He had picked them up in Boxtel and Moerdijk. This happened on behalf of someone, of whom he did not want to give the name. Otherwise the safety of his family would be in danger, it turned out on Thursday at the court in Breda.
The court did not believe the man’s statement, also because he had appealed to the police for his right to remain silent.
What is certain is that the man reported with a truck on April 14, 2023 at a counter of Euro Rijn XL Logistics. That is a logistics company in Moerdijk.
The man seemed to know all the procedures and to know exactly where he had to be almost four hundred supboards to pick up. These are ‘shelves’ on which water sports enthusiasts paddle. The total value of this freight was 130,000 euros.
The man left with the fully loaded truck, but never arrived at the destination: everything was stolen by him and delivered to someone else. He could not or did not want to explain who he had picked up this freight. Furthermore, the man made the impression that he did not know that false license plates were attached to his truck.
The same trick
Five months later, the man took over. Again in Moerdijk, but also in Boxtel, he reported to collect swimming pool tents, swimming pool covers and trampolines. The man thought they were all rejected items.
He had previously stated that he knew nothing about the transports and that he was on holiday in Spain in September, when the theft was committed. He also claimed that the keys in the truck had been left, so that someone else could pick up the party. The judge asked great questions.
The judge therefore imposed him a year because the man was guilty of scams and theft. The Public Prosecution Service had demanded fifteen months in prison. The man also has to pay more than 2000 euros compensation to one of the victims. His lawyer advocated acquittal, because according to him there would not be enough evidence.
Theft of deposit crates
Part of the trampolines was found in September 2023 in a shed in Moerdijk. The tenant of that building would have known that they were left there after a theft. He would also have been involved in the theft. Both facts could not be proven.
For another reason, the man received a prison sentence of six months. In the shed there were tens of thousands of deposit crates and ‘coasters’ with wheels with which they can be transported.
According to the court, he knew that they were stolen and with this he was guilty of healing. According to the judge, there was an undermining and the man did not want to see how serious his actions was.
He also has to pay compensation of around 6000 euros. The owner of the shed involved has nothing to do with the thefts. The owner of the trampolines was informed by the police soon after they were found.
