Man shot at by police remains in jail
The suspect was shot by police in the incident.
In the night of Saturday 27 to Sunday 28 May, the local police of the Kouter zone was called up for marital problems in the Kapelhoek in Eernegem, a sub-municipality of Ichtegem. It turned out that the resident was armed. Police allegedly fired a shot in self-defense during the incident. The suspect was taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The examining magistrate decided to arrest him on suspicion of armed inconsistency and intentional assault and battery on police officers.
The suspect still vehemently denies that he allegedly attacked the officers. According to the defense, it would also be the first time that he has come into contact with the court. As a result of the gunshot wound, the Eernegemnaar was operated on his arm shortly after the facts in hospital. Due to his injuries, the suspect will be incapacitated for work for at least several months. Master Hannes Colpaert unsuccessfully insisted on a conditional release on Friday morning.
