The driver died in a serious accident on the Riegshoogtendijk near Hollandscheveld last night. It concerns a 44-year-old man from Hoogeveen, the police report.
Around a quarter past one, the police received a report of an accident on the Riegshoogtendijk. A motorist had left the road there for unknown reasons and crashed into a tree. A few hundred meters away, the completely destroyed car came to a stop, leaving a wreckage behind. The driver was trapped in the car and had to be freed, but help was of no avail.
Due to the accident, the Riegshoogtendijk was closed to traffic for three hours.
