The 35-year-old man from Exloo who was arrested last week after an explosion in Zoetermeer will be stuck for the time being. The examining magistrate has extended the custody by two weeks. Justice now suspects him of attempted murder, or manslaughter, and causing an explosion that endangered human lives.
The explosion took place last week, 24 May, in an apartment building on the Van Leeuwenhoeklaan in Zoetermeer. According to the police, heavy fireworks were probably used. The bang caused damage to several cars and also damaged the facade of the building.
Three people were injured. One of them had to go to the hospital. The man from Exloo was arrested shortly after the explosion. Bystanders stopped him when he tried to flee, after which the police arrested him.
According to the Public Prosecution Service, the man from Exloo was brought before the examining magistrate on Monday 26 May. He decided that he will be stuck for the time being, awaiting further investigation.
He is currently the only suspect in the case. Whether there have been tips or other suspects are in the picture is not yet clear. The Public Prosecution Service did not provide any information about this. What was the reason for the explosion has not yet been announced. The police are investigating the case and is still looking for witnesses.
