The 28-year-old Ron goes into jail for three years for causing a fatal accident with his car in his hometown of Rijsbergen. He is also not allowed to sit behind the wheel for four years. The court in Breda determined this on Friday.
The accident happened last November on Schriekenweg. The brothers Roy (22) and Sjoerd (24) from Rijsbergen had registered that Friday evening to participate in their dream competition, the annual tractor trek in Etten-Leur. Then their friend Ron (28) would bring them home in his car, but on the way he caused an accident.
Roy was killed and Sjoerd suffered a broken breastbone. Roy had started living together a week earlier in a house that he had bought with his girlfriend, in addition to his parents’. Roy’s girlfriend is entitled to compensation of 20,000 euros, the ruling shows.
‘Reckless and seriously dangerous’
Ron first let a friend drive that evening, because he had drunk four beers himself. That friend was already driving fast, but that is even harder, Ron said. When his friend got out of his house, Ron drove on to bring the brothers home.
He immediately gave gas. According to the right, he drove over a road with several turns over a distance of 1.7 kilometers for more than a minute. On Schriekenweg, the maximum speed is 60 kilometers per hour; Ron reached 140 kilometers. The motorist had also drunk twice as much as is allowed. Rurkeless and seriously traffic, the judge called his driving behavior.
Engine block in a Tuin
At a certain moment he lost control of the wheel, flew out of the corner and hit three trees. The car came to a halt on the roadside. The engine block ended up in a garden and the street was littered with parts. Ron broke his back.
He has made the life of the relatives and that of himself a nightmare, the court said. The accidental Roy was in the middle of life and was a real club man. His mother was inconsolable during the session: “I happened to have put Roy’s school photos in order that evening to give him for in the new house. I didn’t know then I had to use them for his funeral a few days later.”
During the emotionally expired lawsuit, two weeks ago, Ron was asked from different sides why he had started driving and why so hard. And that while he has already been convicted of driving under the influence. He also had to follow a behavioral course for this.
Sorry
During the session, Ron told debt consciously that he “shouldn’t have done so tough.” He also did not want anything to say about the injuries he had sustained himself. Ron thought it was a shame that he was unable to convince the relatives of how much he thought it was what happened for them. The judge also thought that was a shame.
The Public Prosecution Service had demanded a prison sentence of three and a half years and a five -year driving cancellation. The court sentenced Ron to a three -year prison sentence and a four -year driving denial. If the man goes wrong again within two years after the prison sentence, he has to go to prison for another half a year.
The havoc was great after the accident:
