The accident happened around 3.15 pm. The victim drove with his van in the direction of Bruges and deviated from his lane for an unknown reason. He bumped into a few traffic signs and eventually ended up in a deep canal. The driver was trapped in the vehicle but could be released quickly. Yet all the help came too late, the man died on the spot.
