A man climbed onto a crane near Alexanderplatz on Wednesday evening – triggering a major police operation.
The man stood with his arms outstretched on the cab of the crane at the Alexa department store. Just a test of courage – or an even more dangerous situation? What the man wanted up there was initially unclear.

At times the man moved from the crane’s boom to the cabin, repeatedly putting his life in great danger.
Gruner Strasse, Alexanderstrasse and parts of Alexanderplatz were cordoned off over a large area during the operation. Finally, height rescuers from the police and fire brigade were able to get the man safely down from the crane. He was given medical treatment.
